MOTS-C is a naturally occurring mitochondrial-derived peptide (MDP) encoded within the 12S ribosomal RNA gene of the mitochondrial genome, consisting of 16 amino acids. Supplied as a lyophilized powder in a sealed pharmaceutical-grade glass vial. Intended for in-vitro and laboratory research applications only.
Mechanism of Action
MOTS-C exerts its effects primarily through activation of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), a master regulator of cellular energy homeostasis. It has been shown in research models to translocate to the nucleus in response to metabolic stress, directly regulating nuclear gene expression and adaptive stress response pathways. Its inhibition of the folate cycle and de novo purine synthesis leads to AICAR accumulation and subsequent AMPK activation, linking it to glucose uptake, insulin sensitivity, and mitochondrial biogenesis. This unique mitochondria-to-nucleus signaling profile makes it a subject of interest in metabolic dysfunction, insulin resistance, obesity, and longevity research.
